Intervista esclusiva a Kimono: Scopri il nuovo singolo “In ostaggio”

Sofia Tornambene, also known as Kimono, recently spoke to us about her new single “In ostaggio” (In Hostage), which is available digitally today and will hit the radio on October 6th. After winning X Factor in 2019, Sofia’s dreams began to take shape, but the pandemic temporarily put a halt to her progress. However, this challenging period allowed her to undergo an important phase of inner growth and become the artist she is today. Kimono is about to experience a unique emotion as a finalist in “New York Canta,” an Italian music festival in New York City, which is a place she has always dreamed of visiting.

Sofia, winning the 13th edition of X Factor in 2019 was a life-changing experience for you. How did it impact your life?

Winning X Factor was a radical change for me. It was a growth experience and a launch pad for my career. After X Factor, I moved to Milan and immersed myself in music, but then COVID-19 happened. In Milan, I met Maestro, my current producer and collaborator, and we immediately clicked. We started working together, and he welcomed me into a house full of artists where I found people who share my passion and dreams. It was beautiful to find someone who shares my passions and goals, even though it was a difficult time. Being away from my family, dealing with the pandemic, and managing to finish school was not easy. However, I went through a tremendous period of inner growth, which I recommend to everyone because, to me, success means learning to love yourself and listen to your own voice. Through my single “Tempesta” (Storm), I expressed everything I went through during that period, including panic attacks. For me, music is a way to share my experiences.

Your stage name is “Kimono,” which I know derives from your love for karate. Why did you decide to incorporate this passion into your music? Is there a connection between the two?

Yes, exactly. My stage name comes from my love for karate, which I have been practicing for six years. However, it has evolved. “Kimono” means “something to wear,” and I hope that my music can be the outfit that everyone can identify with.

Your new single, “In ostaggio,” is available digitally today and will be on the radio starting October 6th. What is the meaning behind the title, and what themes does it address?

“In ostaggio” is a song that originates from a moment of distress. I always pay attention to psychological suffering, which in this case is related to relationships. It may seem like it talks about a tormented relationship, and in a way, it does. However, it actually refers to the relationship we have with our own mind, which sometimes holds us hostage and prevents us from fully experiencing reality. The song also explores the theme of a couple’s relationship, which should help us grow, but when it becomes distorted, it is not healthy. Sometimes, the person “held hostage” even ends up justifying their “kidnapper.”
